Julia Hartley-Brewer: I know more about government policy than you! | 08-Feb-21

Julia Hartley-Brewer has questioned why schools will remain closed until March after people over 70 have been vaccinated against coronavirus.

Speaking to Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen, she said: "Why do millions of children have to suffer not being at school, not being able to socialise, not having a normal life, so that 70 year olds who can quite easily stay at home can have that extra couple of weeks?"

In response, Andrew Bridgen said: “I’m not sure all 70 year olds would like you speaking on their behalf. We’ve got half term coming up. We go back after half term and we get the youngest children back and those who’ve got exams.”

It comes as pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds found remote learning significantly more difficult than other students last year, a new study has found.
